01Origin and purpose

Global climate change is becoming increasingly severe, so it is everyone’s responsibility to reduce carbon emissions. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has called to achieve net-zero carbon emissions in the global transportation industry by 2050; and EVA Air is determined to achieve Net-Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050. For these reasons, we are exploring all possible methods of collaborating with our supplier partners to improve product and service processes. By striving to reduce our carbon footprints, we can create a sustainable future, together.

02Program participants

EVA Air supplier partners who meet the following requirements can participate in the program:

  • Must have no major violations of environmental, labor, occupational health and safety, product, service, personal data, or corporate governance (ethical management, anti-corruption, competitiveness/anti-monopoly/anti-trust) laws/regulations; and must not owe any taxes (either national or local).
  • Candidates for participation must apply for themselves, or if they are applying for group carbon reductions with other parties, the group must be represented by one party only; carbon reductions cannot be counted more than once.
  • 03Program approach

The EVA Sustainable Vision - Green Supply Chain Program has been in operation for three years and focuses on four major themes: Green Energy Savings, Green Energy Usage, the Green Circular Economy, and Green Transportation. Each partner in the EVA supply chain will customize specific, quantifiable targets for each thematic area based on their own products, processes, and service flows. This approach enables supply chain partners to work towards reducing their environmental impact in a targeted and effective way.

    Four major themes

Saving energy usage through better equipment and building design falls within the Green Energy Savings theme. Energy savings through equipment means using better efficiencies in equipment (less-energy-intensive lighting fixtures, energy-saving appliances, etc.) to minimize energy consumption during operations, maintenance, and management. Building energy savings means incorporating energy savings and carbon reduction into the design of buildings themselves. This includes more efficient architectural use of indoor lighting, ventilation, air conditioning, industrial improvements, and other green initiatives that save on building energy expenditures.

    • Using energy-saving lighting fixtures and electrical equipment.
    • Optimizing lighting to match natural locations.
    • Energy-saving improvements for server rooms.
    • Promoting green factories.
    • Other green program proposals

This theme includes promoting and implementing resource recycling/reuse/regeneration, green production, and reduction at the source, in order to gradually move toward complete garbage recycling and zero waste.

    • Resource recycling/reuse.
    • Wastewater resource recycling/reuse.
    • Rainwater storage and reuse.
    • Other related proposals.

All use of renewable energy is classed as part of the Green Energy Usage theme. Renewable energy here means natural resources that can be used indefinitely, will not be depleted, will not produce pollutants as part of the collection process, and will regenerate within a short period of time.

    • Installation/continued use of solar photovoltaic and thermal systems.
    • Installation/continued use of wind-power systems.
    • Installation/continued use of biomass energy systems.
    • Installation/continued use of waste heat reuse systems.
    • Installation/continued use of other energy systems, such as hydropower or geothermal.

Promoting low-pollution, energy-saving, intelligent, low-carbon vehicles, in order to create a safe, comfortable, environmentally-friendly, symbiotic, sustainable transportation environment, and to further achieve energy conservation and carbon reduction.

    • Using electric two-wheeled vehicles (e.g., motorcycles/motor-scooters).
    • Using electric four-wheeled vehicles (e.g., cars, forklifts, and other such powered vehicles).
    • Using hybrid vehicles.
    • Other related proposals.

    Evaluation

The Activity Evaluation Committee is composed of members of the company's Supply Chain Action Team, invited members of the Corporate Sustainability Development Division, and external experts. Evaluations are based on 2022 as the baseline year for carbon emissions. The Evaluation Committee will review your submission in terms of quantified benefits, completeness of your project introductions, originality, and current sustainability status.

The Supply Chain Action Team and external experts will review your written documents. They will check your submission’s completeness based on the following bullet points. If there are any issues with your application, they will ask for corrections. If any information is missing, you will be asked to supplement it within 5 days, but you can only do this once. If your company does not supplement the information in time, or if your company still does not meet the review requirements after supplementation, your company will not be accepted for secondary review. Applications that pass preliminary review will be sent to the Activity Evaluation Committee for evaluation. Bullet points for review:

    • Eligibility for Activity participation
    • Completeness of written result information
    • Project benefit calculations

The Activity Evaluation Committee will then evaluate your submission based on its reasonableness, authenticity, effectiveness, and other factors. Review may be conducted in writing or onsite; this may include holding video or in-person conferences. We may also request that you provide explanations or supplement additional information.

    • Quantified project benefits (60%)
    • Completeness of project introduction (20%)
    • Project originality (10%)
    • Current sustainability status (10%)
