A Message from the Executives
2023 brought a resurgence in travel and growth in international customer demand. EVA Air was happy to bid farewell to the malaise of COVID-19. Through the strong cooperation between all employees of EVA Air and our nimble operating strategy, we were able to reach consolidated operating revenue of TWD 200.4 billion and consolidated net profit of TWD 23.1 billion - both commendable results, and our strongest performance since we started flying. We have continued to stay on top of market changes and put our fleet’s strengths to best use. In 2023, we opened a route to Clark International Airport in the Philippines, and added cargo destinations at Toronto, Canada and San Francisco, USA. We also introduced five 787-10 passenger aircraft to our fleet, and in November, we announced to purchase eighteen A350-1000 (excluding to option another six aircraft) and fifteen A321neo. In 2023, we also continued to modernize our fleet as a fuel consumption measure, replacing aging aircraft with more energy-efficient models and thus lowering carbon emissions. We continue aiming to provide our customers with superior service while also maintaining our commitment to sustainable flight.
Holding true to our operational core values of Safety, Service, and Sustainability, we incorporate ESG into our operations and continue implementing sustainability programs. In 2022, we established the Sustainability Committee, subordinate to the Board of Directors; and following our principles of being “Action oriented, performance targeted, sustainability focused”, we continue to build more robust oversight and management systems, in order to form a truly superior corporate sustainability & governance framework. In order to review the Company’s performance from every ESG perspective, we actively seek out domestic and international sustainability evaluations. In 2023, EVA Air was part of the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment, and out of a large field of 61 aviation companies evaluated, we were awarded the third-highest ranking. In S&P Global’s Sustainability Yearbook 2024 (announced in February of that year), we were also proud to be ranked as a Top 5% S&P Global ESG Score.
Taiwan is an island, surrounded by the sea. Air transport is critically important to the development of Taiwan’s economy, and EVA Air plays a major role within that. Moreover, we serve many other important functions. Because of the scale of our total value chain - from our upstream suppliers of fuel, aircraft manufacturers, in-flight supplies and catering services suppliers, to our downstream passengers, travel agencies, and cargo forwarders - we have an important role to play in protecting the environment. Through promoting green travel and green transportation program, we and all our stakeholders can help make the world a greener place. Through our Green Supply Chain Program, rolled out in 2023, we work alongside our supply partners to refine our service process and products and reduce our carbon footprints. Another place where EVA Air does our part is in helping advance airline industry diversity. We continue striving to build diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI), and to create workplaces that respect human rights. As a corporate citizen, EVA Air plays many roles, and bears many responsibilities. By upholding our principles of “ensuring safety with discipline, providing services with sincerity, and achieving sustainability with innovation”, and by continuing to move forward alongside our employees, suppliers, investors, customers, and all stakeholders, we are building an aviation brand of sustainability and quality – one that passengers can depend on.
